SHOU SUGI BAN WOOD PRESERVATION
The Japanese Shou Sugi Ban Technique for wood preservation and waterproofing adds a unique custom look and function to any home element of wood it is applied to. Johnson Construction has performed this technique on many projects by hand, onsite.
This is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation using an open flame on the wood surface, followed by a sealing coating. By slightly charring the surface of the wood without combusting the whole piece, the wood becomes water-proof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable. It also protects against insects.
